Many thanks to The Secret Garden - Licensed Cafe and Bistro  for facilitating this camera's location and to Ayrshire Rivers Trust for capitally funding its installation.. Farson Digital has installed a webcam along the River Doon, a prominent river located in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The primary purpose of this webcam is to monitor water levels for fishermen in the area. The River Doon spans a length of 23 miles, starting its journey from Loch Doon and eventually joining the Firth of Clyde just south of Ayr. Its course generally follows a north-westerly direction, passing in close proximity to the town of Dalmellington and traversing through the villages of Patna, Dalrymple, and Alloway, which holds significance as the birthplace of renowned poet Robert Burns. The source of the River Doon can be traced back to Loch Enoch, situated high in the Galloway Hills.In the 1930s, Loch Doon was dammed to provide water for the Galloway Hydro Electric Scheme, an initiative currently operated by Scottish Power. The River Doon holds literary significance as it is mentioned in Burns' celebrated narrative poem "Tam o' Shanter," along with the iconic Brig o' Doon, which crosses the river just outside of Alloway. Furthermore, the river serves as the major backdrop for one of Burns' lesser-known works, the poem titled "Ye Banks and Braes."
